How to Obtain a Library Card
Rev 1/20/19

Anyone who lives in California may obtain a Thousand Oaks Library card for no fee. You must obtain the card in person and have a valid identification listing your current residential address. The library card is not transferable and only you may use it.

One reason you may want a library card is that several of the online services are available for use at home.
Heritage Quest
Los Angeles Times
(1981-Current)
Gale Genealogy Connect – This is a wonderful group of comprehensive references provided from Genealogical.com. This is a must to check out.
America’s News – Ventura County Star
Local News Index

To access these websites, click on tolibrary.org, Virtual Library/Databases A to Z/Research by Topics/Genealogy. For home use a window will appear where you can enter your library card number.
The library also has Ancestry Library Edition and the CVGS pays for a subscription to American Ancestors (maintained by the New England Genealogical and Historical Society). These are only available at the library.

We have society members who volunteer in the Genealogy Section but not all days are covered. If you are coming from a distance, it would be wise to send an email to our Library Volunteers. Let us know when you would be visiting the library and we will try and have a volunteer there to help you.
